They shared smoothies in a parking lot for their first date and talked for hours before work. And they were both open with each other about dating for marriage as the goal.
“I prayed for this moment,” David said.
In his vows to Serratia, he told her he would find her in every life and every universe across every dimension.
“I believe that,” David said. “I think after this life I’ll find her again. I hope to find her again. Because there is no one else out there.”
Influenced by the Taoist idea of the red thread of fate, Serratia and David both believe they were destined to find each other across time and space.
They both grew up in Queens and currently live on Long Island.
In her vows, she said she wants their love to transcend death.
“I wouldn’t be with anyone else,” she said. “He is my one great love.”
David is kindhearted, Serratia said, and he has had to be strong to overcome challenges, including needing the help of hearing aids.
“All his life, a lot of people were telling him he couldn't do a lot of things,” she said. “And I found that very attractive, that he was very persistent. Even with me he was super persistent.”
For their wedding day, Sharyn, assistant to the ministers, and the staff at Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Shelter Rock made them feel welcome, Serratia said. She also expressed gratitude for Rev. David Olson for officiating the ceremony.
“He was phenomenal,” she said.
During golden hour at the Cedarmere Estate in Roslyn, Serratia teared up sharing about her husband and their love story. She asked David to speak.
We asked him to describe his wife.
“Flawless,” he said. “In every way. Personality. Looks. Everything. They don’t even have words for it.”
